P&O Ferries reduces its carbon footprint by 85,000 tons in 2022
P&O Ferries has announced that the company has reduced its carbon footprint by 85,000 tons in 2022, which is company’s most sustainable performance yet!
Working with DFDS, our space charter agreement has enabled the company to reach this milestone by reducing the amount of wasted space on ships decks on the Dover - Calais route. On one of our Irish Sea ships P&O Ferries has fitted brand new propellers, reducing drag and efficiency, which saved 7% of carbon emissions. Company’s Larne-Cairnryan timetable has also been optimised which led to a 3.6% reduction.
2023 also welcomes lots of positive environmental changes, as P&O Ferries soon to add two new super ferries on the English Channel. The new ships will cut fuel use by 40% through a combination of fuel and battery propulsion – making them the most sustainable ferries ever to sail on the English Channel. The space charter with DFDS will mean company’s fleets will sail 9,000 times on the English Channel in 2023, down from 16,000 times in 2019, the last comparable year.
